This study examined factors influencing master's degree attainment in various disciplines. Discrete-time survival analysis was used to examine the records of 3,189 graduate students in business, engineering, health and human sciences, and visual and performing arts at a large midwestern university for 6 years. It was found that 2,070 students had received a master's degree within 6 years. Students in business tended to receive their master's degrees later than did students in the other three areas, while students in health and human sciences received their degrees more quickly.
