The present review deals with recent developments on synthesis and characterization of polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) derived from organo clay (OCL) with selected thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers of industrial relevance. To compatibilize with polymer matrix, clays are modified with organophilic functionalities. The clays modified in this way are known as organoclay (OCL). The most popular methods for clay modification are executed through their cation exchange with quaternary ammonium salts bearing alkyl, vinyl, imidazolium, tallow alkyl functionalities.
