Conditions are described for converting a chlorocyclopropane with a CHCO2R group in the ring to the corresponding methoxycyclopropane in excellent yield. The non-reactivity of a chlorocyclopropane lacking a CHCO2R group in the ring indicated that the successful reactions proceed via cyclopropenes.
