Acknowledgement

I would like to thank Christian Rosenmund, who invited me to be part of his new lab in Berlin and supported me throughout the past five years with all the ups and downs that a PhD thesis brings with it. He encouraged me to work very independently on these interesting proj-ects but was always there with advice when I needed it. He also put together our great team of international researchers creating a working atmosphere that was exceptional. I want to thank all my former and current colleagues. Some accompanied my journey from the very beginning with my lab rotation in winter 2009 until now, others left before or started after me. But all of them enriched my life in the Rosenmund lab both professionally and personally. I want to thank my colleagues for helping me with various problems over the years, having interesting scientific debates, for great trips to conferences, cheering at so many of my concerts and sharing live outside the lab.
