Abstract. In endemic areas, most of the people who die from falciparum malaria are young children. Death is commonly preceded by coma (cerebral malaria). The possible role of cytoadherence in this clinical picture is considered. Cerebral malaria (CM) and anemia are the 2 gravest and most commonly fatal complications of falciparum malaria.
