The articles on the aurorae in A&G at the start of this year made inter-esting reading for those of us with a long-time interest in the aurora, and observing it from the UK. My own first auroral sightings from Britain were made by chance in 1978, at the geographic latitude I still observe from, about halfway up the British Isles, around 55°N in south-east Northumberland.
