It has been reported that offspring of consanguineous marriages have lower IQ scores than offspring of non-consanguineous marriages.3 The present result is consistent with that report. However, this study is the first to test the hypothesis that IQ and a are negatively correlated at the population level. The present study has some limitations. The most important limitation is common to all ecological studies. Owing to the inherently correlative nature of the study design, it was not feasible to rule out the possibility that both intelligence and a are confounded by other factors not accounted for in this study
