ABSTRACT. An experimental design taietployed tp ass ss the impact of standardized tests on 47 secondgrade Irish teach rs',judgments of their 1,566 students. Teachers reAiving test results showed greater slifts'in their ratings of stadents than teachers,not-. receiving test results.'However, these shifts tended to.be in the.e poSAive directionand for only a stall number of students. Results. indicated that Atandardited test results di,d alter second grade_ tetchers expectations for their students in-a small petcentage of cases (10 % or. less) This study also indicated that teachers tended to raise', but not lower, their ratings of students ° performance as a, result of receiving test results.
