The written examination in general internal medicine to be offered by the American Board of Internal Medicine in June 1972 will be a Certifying Examination. Those who pass it will be certified as Diplomates without further examination. Candidates who apply for the examination will be required by the Board, before they are accepted, to substantiate their competence in interviewing and examining patients and in related functions. This documentation should be furnished by the director of the residency training program in general internal medicine in the hospital where the applicant is in training.
