The September 1988 newsletter of Commission VII (Counseling and Psychological Services) of the American College Personnel Association contained a survey addressing the issues of sexual intimacy in the training and practice of counselors, psychologists and educators. Approximately 800 surveys were mailed to the commission members. Participation in the survey was voluntary and anonymous. A total of 75 questionnaires were returned from 30 states. The most useful information from this survey is that which suggests a lack of awareness and training in some specific areas. One cause for concern is the number of therapists and clients who believe that social relationships during therapy or after termination are acceptable. The second major concern ...
