"Full-service schools " present opportunities for communities to construct solutions at the local level that unite people and resources in times of stress. Among these schools are school-based health centers, youth-service centers, family-resource centers, Beacons/lighted schoolhouses, and community schools. They share the provision of community agencies in school buildings with the goal of creating comprehensive, one-stop educational and service centers. This paper describes different kinds of school-based initiatives across the United States and presents preliminary research findings on their effects.
