Editor’s note: Model builders must deal with validation, i.e., an assurance that the model faithfully represents the real system for..-- the questions put to it. Although validity must ultimately be tested by fitting model behavior to observed behavior, one would like to start validation during the design stage, long before experimental confirmation is possible. This applies especially to a network simulator that must accommodate a wide variety of real-world configurations. Chlamtac and Franta show how comparisons with a base model can help validate simplified models obtained for simulation
