The purposes of this 1969 study were to determine: (1) if differences existed in the self concepts of Negro, Anglo, and Spanish American adolescents and (2) the extent to which these differences were influenced by ethnic group membership, socioeconomic position, and sex. The sample for the study was made up of 425 Anglo, 40 Negro, and 142 Spanish American ninth-grade students in a school district in south central New Mexico. Instruments used in the study were the Tennessee Self Concept Scale (TSCS) anti the Hollingshead Two Factor Index of Social Position.
