anaesthesia in patients suffering from myasthenia gravis, dystrophia myotonica, and myotonia congenita. Kaufman mentions the possibility of myotonia of the respiratory muscles leading to inadequate respiration and to difficulty in arti-ficial ventilation of the lungs. He cites cases in which this occurred in patients receiving open-ether anaesthesia, spinal anaesthesia, and following the use of decamethonium. He advises against the use of the depolarizing relaxant drugs in cases in which myotonia is marked. Severe generalized myotonia can follow the administration of these drugs in cases where the degree of myotonia is minimal, as is shown by the following report. CASE HISTOR
