(Received for publication October 17,1966) Gout has been recognized as a famil-ial disorder since Galen (1) (A.D. 131— 201) ascribed the origin of the disease to "debauchery, intemperance and a hereditary trait". Since that time many investigators have substantiated the finding of familial aggregation of hy-peruricemia and gout, but conflicting theories have been proposed concerning the mode of inheritance of these traits.
