Reports results of a questionnaire survey, conducted as part of a study of the use of project management techniques and software in UK libraries, involv-ing university librarians and Electronic Libraries Programme (eLib) project managers. These managers were asked about their experience in using for-mal project methodologies and project software. A case study of project management, at the Robinson Library, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, is used to illustrate conventional project control methods by analyzing past projects. Outlines a formal structured project management framework which was adopted for projects in the 1997/1998 session following training in the use of project management techniques and software. Draws preliminary con-clusions about the effectiveness of this change. (Further details of the project can be found a
