sexualism represents a ‘shallow ’ reading of the body resulting from an uncritical endorsement of Cartesian dualism. This article reviews the bases of Wilton’s critique, to reveal tensions within feminist and queer theory. My aim is to argue that: (a) Wilton reproduces the very psycho-medical discourses that her article purports to critique; and (b) rather than critique the bases of determining ‘reality ’ and ‘experience’, Wilton reifies this Cartesian dualism. The article concludes by inviting continued dialogue between and within transsex, lesbian and feminist communities
