based on Lindstr6m (1964) and Rhodes & MtiIIer (1966). Some new and a few other genera re here included in Hass ' classification for the first time. The use of this classification does not imply that the present author believes that it has any phylogenetic value. It is used here only because it represents the best available taxonomic framework for treating the conodonts in the present volume. Studies of conodont assemblages (e.g. Rhodes 1952 and Walliser 1964) suggest hat it has little phylogenetic significance, and the increasing recognition of "natural " conodont axa will inevitably involve radical taxonomic revision.
