Efforts by Public K-8 Schools To Involve Parents in

National Household Education Survey This study investigated the level of agreement between parents ' and schools ' views of how schools involve parents in their children's education and how parents respond to the opportunities for involvement that schools provide. Data are from two national surveys conducted in 1996. The first, the Survey on Family and School Partnerships in Public Schools, K-8, gathered data from 810 schools on their efforts to involve parents. The second survey, the Parent and Family Involvement in Education/Civic Involvement Survey of the National Household Education Surveys Program collected data that included information about their participation in their children's schooling from parents of about 9,700 children. Discrepancies were apparent between the schools ' and parents'.r.eports on whether schools used various practices to involve parents. For each practice, the school was more likely to report use of the practice than were the parents.
