This chapter represents a broadened under-taking for the Review of Educational Research, reflecting the recent emer-gence of counselor education into a more professional status. As with any developing profession some areas of counselor education have progressed faster than others. For example, such vital areas as the evaluation of counselor education programs, the problems of professional ethics, and the counseling of children with special problems such as the ghetto child have received very little attention. In contrast, such areas as standards, the content of counselor education programs, the use of sub-professional support personnel, and the problems of counselor selection and role have received considerable attention.
