This paper describes a simple, in-office procedure for measuring the oxygen transmissibility (DK/L) of hydrogel contact lenses. The procedure involves measuring lens thickness with an electrical micrometer and lens water content using a hand refractometer. A graph is provided so that the lens DK/L can be derived from these two parameters. A protocol for in-office DK/L measurement is presented and the application of this procedure to patient management is discussed
