Negative tests included stool for rotavirus, urine tox-icology screen, serum salicylate, and acetaminophen levels. Blood, urine, stool, and cerebrospinal fluid samples were sent for bacterial culture. In the emer-gency department, she was resuscitated with 40 mL/kg of normal saline, started on twice-maintenance fluids, and received IV ceftriaxone. Following stabi-lization, she was transported to a tertiary care pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for further evaluation and management. Additional laboratory studies after admission to the PICU revealed rhabdomyolysis, with a creatinine kinase level of 193 000 units/L.
