The overall objective of this study was to assess the short-term economic advantages that accrue tc young people as a result of vocational training. Using the High School and Beyond data base, specifically--sophomore cohort data--a study created 21 tables that show (1) relationships between the primary variables of race, gender, and socioeconomic status and level of participation in vocational education or the selection of a vocational education specialty; (2) whether the primary variables affect the amount and kind of post-high school vocational training and credontialling; and (3) whether there were similar relationships with labor market outcomes. Some of the findings of the study were that race/ethnicity did not appear to be a major factor in level of participation or in selection into the vocational specialties; however, race/ethnicity was associated with the kinds of certificates and licenses earne
