Techniques are elaborated for creating complex, but easily traversed, networks of hypertext or multimedia jumps, links, and pop-up windows. Five USARIEM documents are restructured as individual networks of hypertext nodes and links. It is also shown how such hypertext handbooks or publications can themselves be represented as hypertext nodes within a higher-level hypertext application. The higher-level hypertext application functions as the entry point for accessing the component hypertext documents.
