Effects of computers on social life of children and adolescent*

Abstract: The study was conducted in Karnataka state to reveal the time spent for computers and its effects on family life of children and adolescents. The total sample size consisted of one hundred and twenty respondents comprising sixty children of age group 10- 12 years from Presentation and K.E Boards school, Dharwad and sixty adolescents of age group of 15-18 years from Mahila Vidya Peeth, Hubli and Karnataka College, Dharwad respectively. Purposive random sampling procedure was used for selection of respondents. Using interview schedule, the required data were collected by personal interview method in 2008-09. Data were coded, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted using suitable statistical parameters. The results showed that independent variables like age, education, type of family, size of the and annual family income were positively significant with the time spent pattern of children and adolescents for computers
