An Evaluation of a High School Peer Mediation Program

This article provides results about a high school's support for its peer mediation program and the effectiveness of that program. The four subject groups surveyed included faculty, students in eight home room classes, trained student mediators, and students who had used the program to resolve an interpersonal conflict. Individuals directly involved with the peer-mediation program were more satisfied with it versus those who had no direct experience. Responses from the four subject groups indicated the idea of a peer-run conflict resolution program was appealing; however, many students had not used the program over a one-year period. A possible reason cited for low program usage was a lack of information about the program. Suggestions to improve the program are listed.
