this paper we consider a three-dimensional Stokes flow problem in which a hemispherical bump is introduced into a linear shear flow past a plane wall. The solution for the disturbance flow due to the bump is calculated. From this solution the flow pattern about the bump can be illustrated and it is shown that some fluid, near the base of the hemisphere, must experience an amount of recirculatory motion in flowing past the bump. Values for the force and torque exerted upon the bump are presented. 1
