Brief Reports 529 Uveitis Following Administration of the Protease Inhibitor Indinavir to a Patient with AIDS

is an antiretroviral agent in the family of protease inhibitors that was recently approved for the treatment of HIV infection [1]. Indinavir exhibited potent antiviral effects in clinical trials in pa-tients with AIDS; when it was used as monotherapy or in combina-tion with reverse transcriptase inhibitors, there was a pronounced drop in viral load and an increase in the absolute number of CD4 cells [2]. The most common side effects associated with indinavir in patients treated to date are gastrointestinal intolerance, an ele-vated indirect bilirubin level, headache, and nephrolithiasis [1, 2]. No ocular side effects have been reported for indinavir or two other recently approved protease inhibitors. We report a case of bilateral anterior uveitis following administration of indinavir.
