THYROID CARCINOMA PRESENTING AS AN ISOLATED BONE CYST

A case is reported of thyroid carcinoma pre senting as an isolated bone cyst of the left shoul der. Diagnosis and extent of disease was docu mented by a total-body scintiscan. It is suggested that prompt recognition and appropriate ther.. apy may reduce morbidity and prolong survival. Follicular carcinoma of the thyroid is frequently characterized by early metastases to lung and bone. Early recognition, prompt surgical excision, and ablative radioiodine therapy may lead to reduced morbidity and prolonged survival (1—4). Recently, we have had the opportunity to see a young patient whose diagnosis and treatment were unavoidably delayed because of the mode of presentation of the thyroid malignancy.
