Recent developments in neuroimaging have improved the diagnosis of neuronal migration disorders that occur frequently in children with intractable epilepsy. In particular, there has been a recent focus on epilepsy cases with focal cortical dysplasia that can be treated by surgery.1–4 However, the mechanisms underlying epileptogenicity in focal cortical dysplasia remain uncharacterized. In the first part of this study, we analyzed the clinical, electroencephalographic (EEG), and pathologic characteristics of epilepsy patient with focal cortical dysplasia. In the second part, an experimental model of focal cortical dysplasia is presented and the possible mechanism of epileptogenicity in focal cortical dysplasia is discussed
