Music Therapy and Alcoholism: Part II-Treatment Services

ABSTRACT: This article discusses pertinent music therapy services for clients with alcoholism. Based upon a review of both the available alcoholism literature and music therapy literature, a general program format and individual goals are suggested. Selected topics include: group identity and cohesiveness, self-awareness, stress reduction, and the expression of feelings and emotions. Together with Part I: An Overview of the Addiction, there two articles provide a brief intro duction and review of appropriate music therapy services for people with alcoholism. The goal is to provide a foundation for music therapy students interested in working with clients with alcoholism. and cur rent therapists reeking direction for clinical procedures Additionally, researchers may build upon the information presented in the articles. and begin validating the suggested music therapy treatment strategies.
