A comparative study-was carried out using four software design methodologies to design an experimental stream editor. The resulting designs were evaluated in terms of module strength and module coupling. Documentation of the designs were done with a design aid system called Design Aids for Real-Time Systems (DARTS). The goal of this study is to examine one methodology in particular- the Systematic Design Methodology (SDM). SDM was one of the methodologies used in the above experiment, and through the evaluation of the editor designs several weaknesses in SDM were discovered.
