Rupture of an Internal Iliac Artery Aneurysm into the Rectum: Fatal Consequence of an Ilioenteric Fistula

Fistulization of a true aneurysm or pseudoaneurysm of major arteries into the gastrointestinal tract has been reported in the literature since 1943. More common is the fistulization of a true abdominal aortic aneurysm and pseu-doaneurysm at an anastomotic site, proximally at the aortic level or distally at the site of iliac arteries, after a vascular reconstructive procedure. Rupture of an isolated aneurysm of the common iliac arteries is less fre-quent, and rupture of an internal iliac artery aneurysm into the gastrointestinal tract is rare. In searching the literature, the authors did not find documentation of any previous report of rupture of an internal iliac artery aneurysm into the rectum. They report a case of an acute rupture of a left internal iliac artery aneurysm into the rectum with a fatal outcome
