Banyak sistem katalitis heterogen telah dilaporkan dan kebanyakannya, mekanisme dari sistem katalis tersebut telah dipahami dengan baik. Dalam tulisan ini, kami berusaha menggolongkan sistem-sistem katalitis heterogen yang contoh-contohnya diambil dari penelitian-penelitian yang kami lakukan dalam bidang ini. Penelitian-penelitian tersebut digolongkan ke dalam lima kelas: katalis tunggal, sistem katalis hidrofilik-hidrofobik, katalis dwifungsi dan fotokatalis.
