Two ionic liquids (ILs) based on an imidazolium cation and with different inorganic anions, bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (TFSI) and dicyanamide (DCA) anions, were used as electrolyte medium to study the effects of the anion component in ILs on the electrochromic properties of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). Using [BMI][DCA] as the electrolyte medium gives rise to PEDOT samples with improved electrochromic properties in terms of not only the higher contrast ratio and coloration efficiency, but also of the shorter switching coloration time. It suggests that DCA anion with a smaller structure contributed to improving the intercalation/de-intercalation procedure
