the vaccine strain of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus from mos-quitoes in Louisiana. Am J Epidemiol 95: 490-496, 1972.—During the 1971 epizootic of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis the TC-83 vaccine strain was isolated from a pool of Psorophora confinnis mosquitoes collected in Evangeline Parrish, Louisiana. The identity of the isolate was confirmed by (a) animal studies using mice, guinea pigs and hamsters, and (b) immunologic techniques including kinetic hemagglutination inhibition, kinetic neutraliza-tion, and gel diffusion. The significance of this isolation is discussed in regard to the ecology and epidemiology of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus. disease outbreaks; encephalomyelitis, equine; epizootic; mosquitoes...
