A framework is presented for characterizing and analyzing relationships among alternative mathematical models of a single underlying system. This framework is inlended to faciliLate the comparative analysis of modeling strategies and the development of new techniques for exact and approximate solution of complex models. A related objective is to facili-tate communication among researchers, practitioners and students of modeling.
