Many specimens of the hitherto little-known genus of tree frogs Nyctimystes are included in the extensive herpetological material ob-tained by the five Archbold Expeditions to New Guinea. The study of this material and other important specimens obtained in central New Guinea by E. Thomas Gilliard makes it possible to redefine the genus Nyctirnystes and to add several new species to the known fauna of New Guinea. In addition to the specimens in the collection of the American Museum of Natural History, I have examined specimens in the Car-negie Museum through the generosity of Dr. M.
