1-Alkylthymine gave four kinds of crystals de-pending on the solvents used. Photodimeriz-ations of 1-alkylthymine in single crystals were found to depend on the crystal structure. In in-active crystals, the terminal methyl group of alkyl chains approached to the double bond of thymine, and inhibited rotation of thymine bases during photodimerization
