Successful replantation of amputated nose and auricle

Amputations of the nose and of the auricle present difficult management problems. Application of simple reanachment techniques, followed by aggressive medical ther-apy which consistsof cooling, anticoagulation, antibiotic coverage, and multiple stab Incisions In the amputated tissues, have resulted In the successful replantation of major portions of an amputated nose and an amputated auricle with satisfactory cosmetic results. (OTOL.Al<YNGOL HEAD NECK SURG 1987;97:18.) The exposed positions of the nose and ears render them very susceptible to trauma. Simple reattachment of am-putated portions of the face has rarely been successful. Only nine successful replantations of severed ear parts were found in the literature of this century (up to 1976). I No satisfactory cosmetic result after replantation of an amputated nose by only simple attachment techniques was discovered in recent writings. Microsurgical re-plantation has been used in reattachment of ears.i- ' but this approach depends upon well-preserved recipient vessels. In this article, we present two cases of successful replantation of major portions of an amputated nose and an amputated auricle. Modified simple reattachment techniques were used with good cosmetic results
