SUMMARY The sodium requirement for growth of the young chick, fed an isolated soybean protein diet, was shown to be 0.11 % of the diet. On a casein-gelatin diet, formulated to simulate the diet used by Burns et al. (1953), the chicks ' requirement for sodium was found to be 0.20 % of the diet. It was concluded that the physical properties of the basal diet employed by Burns et al. (1953) were largely responsible for the chicks having responded up to the 0.3% level of sodium
