It is now more than a decade since British troops were sent to Northern Ireland, and the conflict in the province continues with no end in sight. A great deal has been written about the economic and political background to this conflict, but relatively little about what has actually happened since 1969. Whilst a great deal of information is available from official sources and specialist publications, there have been few attempts to collate this material and provide a general picture of the situation in Northern Ireland.
