Mass and electric multipole moments are defined for electrostatic space-tu11es according to the formalism of Geroch a11d Hansen. Difficulties in clefi.ning the moments for stationary space-times are outlined. Since Gerochn and Hansen2J gave a definition of multipole moments for static and stationary space-times respectively, one would like to have the multipole mo-ments for electrovac space-times. However, this attempt meets in the stationary case some difficulties, which we shall explain later
