40 % of women Assembly Members (AM). In 2003, female representation increased to 50%, thought to be a world record in female representation in a legislative decision-making body. This edited volume considers how and why such representation was achieved in the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) and examines its impact across a range of diverse policy areas. In par-ticular, the contributions evaluate progress made through the ‘duty of equal-ity’, originating from the Government of Wales Acts 1998/2006, which seek to promote equality for all people in Wales. The book opens with a ‘scene setting ’ chapter, and is then sectioned into three parts. The first focuses on ‘Gender, Political Representation and Social Justice ’ and is followed by a section entitled ‘Social Justice for Women? ’ The final section is devoted to a conclusion. Whilst all contributions act as ‘stand-alone ’ chapters, and could be read as such, together they offer interesting and engaging discussions on the impact of feminist thinking in achieving high levels of gender representation in the Welsh context.
