Recently it has been reported that T4 'light particles ' (T4 1.p.), though unable to synthesize DNA extensively in single infection (Mosig and Ehring, 1968), are able to synthesize 'early' enzymes (Mosig and Revel, 1967) at the normal rate, carrying such synthesis beyond the normal time of shut-off of early enzyme synthesis like normal phages that fail to replicate if UV-irradiated (Dirkscn et al., 1960) or if blocked in some early function (Wiberg et al., 1962).
