This book makes a signifi cant contribution to the existing knowledge base of assisted living and the wider long-term care sector. Its focus is on sorting out the various infl uences that shape the nature of the assisted living care setting as well as its availability and appeal to elder care consumers, both now and in the future. Although the book intends to serve as a crystal ball for assisted living, one is left with few certainties about the future of this elder care setting. That said, what the book does provide is a cogent look at both the key issues that the assisted living industry confronts and the multiple factors that make defi ning its future prob-lematic. All its contributors are recognized experts in the fi eld of gerontology and long-term care. It
