USE OF THE OCRA INDEX IN ASSESSMENT OF REPETITIVE ACTIVITIES OF UPPER LIMBS AND EXPERIENCES IN RE-DESIGNING WORK PLACES.

The purpose of this paper is to shorn, the results and conclusions of the use of the CCRA methodology which was developed by Drs. Daniela Colombini and Enrico Occhipinti and applied at Empress Brasileira de Compressores S.A. in two stator sections (Minis and Midis factories). Those sections presented high numbers of CTD operators with symptoms of upper limb disorders. After confirming that all work places presented high levels risk of injury, the re-designing of some work places was started in the company. as well as the re-training of employees; cornforming to ergonomic modules in the CCQ (Quality Control Circle) course. In 1999 an experiment introduced stretching, pauses and changes in work places during the work shift This allowed for alternative pastures as well as reduction of force and frequency of such movements. As a result a significant decrease in occupational disorders and better life quality of the- employees was achieved
