-Thin films of Nb2O5 were synthesized via the sol-gel process. The films showed electrochromism when Li+ ions are inserted in their structural networks. The reversibility of the insertion process is above 95% accompanied by a good variation in optical transmission of about 80% in the transparent state and 20% in the colouring state (dark blue) in the visible range. The influence of the densification temperature of the films on the Li+ insertion through measured by cycle voltammetry is discussed. The results indicate that Nb2O5 is an excellent material for electrochromic devices
