In principle it is possible to use recently-derived procedures to determine whether or not all the parameters of particular complex ecological models can be estimated using classical methods of statistical inference. If it is not possible to estimate all the parameters a model is parameter redundant. Furthermore, one can investigate whether derived results hold for such models for all lengths of study, and also how the results might change for specific data sets. In this paper we show how to apply these approaches to entire families of capture-recapture and capture-recapture-recovery models. This results in comprehensive tables, providing the definitive parameter redundancy status for such models. Parameter redundancy can also be caused...
