In 2004, the journalist Günther Nenning proposed an anthology of ‘representative’ texts from post-1945 Austrian literature, to be presented to the public in a painted box in celebration of sixty years Second Republic, fifty years Austrian Constitution and ten years in the EU. The project was supported by Wolfgang Schüssel's Chancellery, causing critics to condemn it as a misappropriation of literature by his conservative/right-wing coalition government.
